La Farmicia, Philadelphia, PA

I discovered this restaurant during a previous visit to Philadelphia's Old Town and checked out the menu while enjoying a glass of wine and vowed to return...and so I did this evening. The website describes the experience as capturing the pleasures of simply crafted food and excellent beverages served in a relaxed yet lively environment. The emphasis is on great tasting food and beverages crafted from local, organic, and artisanal producers. I chose the chilled Carrot Ginger Soup that my server pointed out was vegan. Very pleasant but I would have preferred a more pronounced ginger presence. I totally enjoyed the Crabmeat and Asian Pear Salad with almonds and a lemon-mint dressing, lettuces and creamed avocado. A choice of breads was offered and I selected the organic sourdough bread with an herb butter that combined basil, sage, thyme and taragon. A California chardonnay complimented my meal. My knowledgeble server, Scott, suggested that next visit I might try the Volgnier Oakgrove Chardonnay from San Martin, California. He provided me with a sample and I certainly would try it again...a very dry chardonnay. The atmosphere, service and food was outstanding at La Farmicia!
